my name is ella boyd.

  • I grew up in a small town on the coast of Maine with a dream of going west. After receiving my B.A. in Philosophy from Scripps College, I am now based in San Clemente where I write the surf column for the San Clemente Times.

I also work for Matt Warshaw at the Encyclopedia of Surfing, working to preserve and document surf history.

I am the 2024 Poetry Intern at the Kelp Journal.

Last year I travelled full time, surfing and shooting water photography in places such as North Shore Oahu, California, Baja, and Indonesia.

I have worked as a staff writer and photographer at POWDER and The Inertia and as one of the Deputy Editors at The Surftime Journal in Bali, Indonesia.

In 2023 I was selected as one of five finalists for the Follow The Light Surf Photography Grant Program.
